A static IP address is exactly what it sounds like, an IP that remains fixed and does not change. Unlike a dynamic IP address, which can update periodically, a static IP is manually assigned and stays consistent over time.
By default, OneNet internet services use dynamic IP addressing and CGNAT (Carrier-Grade Network Address Translation) to manage connections efficiently. However, there are many cases where a static IP may be beneficial or even necessary.
Why You Might Need a Static IP
Having a static IP address offers several advantages:
- Host servers and access your network remotely:
A static IP allows you to host web, email, or FTP servers that others can connect to via the internet. It also enables you to access your home or office network securely from anywhere in the world. - Greater reliability for hosted services:
Since your IP doesn’t change, users connecting to your hosted services won’t lose access or need updates whenever your address refreshes. - Improved support for DNS, VoIP, VPNs, and online gaming:
Many professional and technical applications perform better and more consistently with a static IP.
How to Get a Static IP with OneNet
If you’re on a OneNet Business plan, your service automatically includes one static IP address at no extra cost.
For Residential customers, a static IP can be added to your plan for $5 per month. Business users who need more than one IP address can request additional allocations.
How to Add a Static IP
There are two simple ways to add a static IP to your OneNet service:
- Via your OneNet account portal or mobile app:
Open your internet service details, navigate to the “Add-ons” section, and tap the plus icon next to Static IP. - By phone:
Contact the OneNet Customer Service team, and they’ll add a static IP to your account for you.
